About Us
Behind the Vision and Missionary Story
HOPE FOUNDATION, the humanitarian organization initiated by Prof. Charles Ohiku and Dr. Mrs. Christiana Ohiku in 1993, has had a remarkable journey over the past 29 years. Prof. Ohiku, who appraised the organization’s activities, revealed that their vision for the Ota-based organization in Ogun State is primarily to bring joy and hope to the less privileged.
Since its inception, the Voice of Watchman, a part of the HOPE FOUNDATION, has been tirelessly working to bridge the gap for the underprivileged in the community and reach out to lost souls who have never encountered the gospel of Jesus Christ. Prof. Ohiku explained, “The pain and suffering of these groups, some of whom have privileged relatives but have been forgotten, gave birth to the Voice of Watchman.”
Driven by the neglect of Missions, Prof. Ohiku emphasized the importance of their work while others are involved in show business. HOPE FOUNDATION stands for Hospital (H), Orphanages (O), Prisons (P), Evangelism (E), and Education with a focus on Christian missionary activities.
Highlighting some of their achievements, Prof. Ohiku, who served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ogun State branch for eight years, mentioned, “We have equipped every prison in Ogun State with boreholes. Any borehole you find in Ogun State today is from the Voice of Watchman, Nigeria HOPE FOUNDATION.”
Currently, we have identified 10 widows, and we don’t refer to them as widows anymore because some have remarried.””
Reflecting on their critical role during the Liberian War, Prof. Ohiku recounted, “We sheltered Liberians here during the war. We established an annex school for them, trained them, and sent them back to Liberia. Many Christian Bible Colleges in Liberia invite us for significant events.”
Voice of Watchman operates within the realms of Christian education, emphasizing missionary activities, religious research, practical missionary operations, and close associations with humanitarian and philanthropic organizations. The organization collaborates with entities like the West African College for Christian Missions (WACCM), the Christian Research Institute of Nigeria, The Hope Foundation, the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prison Fellowship International, Nigeria, and the West African Music Academy. We conduct rural outreaches to support children, placing some in schools and helping others learn trades. These are children who cannot read. We also support widows by providing them with stipends and food monthly.
